Multiplayer FAQ

Everything you need to know about multiplayer in DragonSword: Awakening. Co-op, PvP, open world, player counts — all your questions answered in one place.

⚡ Short Answer

DragonSword: Awakening is primarily a single-player game with limited online co-op. You can play Hunts (2P) and Raids (3P) with friends via invite code. There is no PvP, no open-world multiplayer, and no local co-op. The story campaign is solo only.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you play co-op in DragonSword: Awakening?

Yes, but limited. Only two modes support co-op: Hunts (up to 2 players) and Raids (up to 3 players). Everything else — story, open world, Tower of Trials — is single-player only.

Q: Is there PvP in DragonSword: Awakening?

No. The game is pure PvE (Player vs Environment). There is no player vs player combat, no arena, no duels, and no competitive modes. The Steam store tags confirm: Single-player, Online Co-Op, Multiplayer, PvE — no PvP tag.

Q: Can you explore the open world with friends?

No. Open world exploration is strictly single-player. You cannot invite friends to explore the Continent of Orbis together, gather resources together, or complete world events as a group. Co-op is limited to instanced Hunts and Raids only.

Q: How many players can play together?

Hunts: 2 players max. Raids: 3 players max. Each player brings their own full 3-hero party, so a 3-player raid has up to 9 heroes on the field simultaneously. There is no larger multiplayer mode.

Q: How do you play with friends?

Via invite code. One player creates a lobby, selects the Hunt or Raid and difficulty, then generates a unique invite code. Share this code with your friend(s), who enter it to join. No Steam friend list required. There is also a co-op matchmaking system, but invite codes are the primary method.

Q: Can you play the story campaign in co-op?

No. The main story campaign is designed and balanced as a single-player experience. You cannot play story missions, cutscenes, or main quest content with friends.

Q: Is there matchmaking for random players?

There is a co-op matchmaking system for Raids — the game checks for existing lobbies with the same content and can create one for others to join. However, the community primarily uses invite codes to play with friends. You can set lobbies to Private so only invited players can join.

Q: Is there local / split-screen co-op?

No. There is no local co-op, split-screen, or couch multiplayer. All multiplayer is online only. Some unofficial sources have claimed local co-op exists, but this has not been confirmed by the developer.

Q: Can you retry a Hunt/Raid without recreating the lobby?

No. After completing a Hunt or Raid, the lobby automatically disbands. There is no quick retry or rematch option. You must go through the full lobby creation process again — create lobby, select content, generate code, share code, wait for friends to join.

Q: Does guest progress save in co-op?

Not fully documented. The developer (Hound13) has not clearly confirmed whether guests' progress, loot, or achievements save when joining a friend's lobby. This is a common community question without an official answer as of August 2026.

Q: When does multiplayer unlock?

Not clearly documented. Raids and Hunts unlock around level 50 based on community reports, but the exact unlock conditions and progression requirements have not been officially confirmed by Hound13.

Q: Do mods affect online play?

Potentially yes. Using mods may prevent you from joining online sessions. Both players typically need identical mod setups, or you may need a bypass patch. If you plan to play co-op, consider using a vanilla (unmodded) game installation.

🎯 Verdict: Should You Buy for Multiplayer?

💡 Our Take

If you're primarily looking for a co-op or multiplayer game to play with friends, DragonSword: Awakening may not be the best choice. The multiplayer is very limited — only Hunts and Raids, no open world, no story co-op, cumbersome lobby system. The game is fundamentally a single-player action RPG with optional co-op for endgame instanced content. Buy it for the solo experience, and treat co-op as a bonus for tackling tough raids with friends.

🔮 Future Multiplayer Updates

Based on the developer roadmap, future updates may expand multiplayer content:

Game released July 23, 2026. Multiplayer features will likely evolve with post-launch updates.
