This is not a pure damage ranking. DragonSword combat is built around Status Ailments, Signal Skills and three-Hero tag teams. We rank based on: overall strength, utility, crowd control, Signal Skill synergy, consistency, and investment value.

S TIER — Best of the Best (6 Heroes)
These Heroes excel in nearly every situation and are the safest investments for endgame content.
| Hero | Trait | Status Ailments | Why S Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lute | Amplitude | Stun, Recovery, Knockdown | Best beginner-friendly all-rounder. Stun, poise pressure, AoE, grab, and team healing. Works in any team, free unlock. Most consistent investment. |
| Kalsion | Blazeflame | Burn | Most complete offensive character. Massive fire burst, strong AoE control, enemy grouping, multiple ways to extend aggressive Signal chains. |
| Ornette | Thunderbolt | Shock, Knockdown | Personal damage + excellent coverage + team value. Wide AoE, self crit damage buff, contributes greatly in switch sequences without long field time. |
| Dana | Frostbite | Frost | Safest endgame investment. Summon Chaco deals damage while Dana attacks from range, plus Frost pressure, knockdown and defense. Incredible on hard bosses. |
| Charlotte | Venom | Poison, Airborne, Knockdown | Best all-rounder for fast-paced aggressive play. Stealth, clone pressure, Poison, excellent mobility, most flexible movement kit. Has proven endgame team comps. |
| Theresia | Amplitude | Bleed, Stun | Strongest aggressive carry at launch. Switches between Bleed and Stun for two different chain starters. Strong boss damage, natural synergy with multiple top-tier Heroes. |
A TIER — Excellent (8 Heroes)
Strong Heroes with clear strengths. Great team players that excel in the right composition.
| Hero | Trait | Status Ailments | Why A Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Castella | Breaker | Stun, Airborne | Easiest control character to recommend. Reliable launch and knockback, simple to play. Excellent for progression and trash mobs. Some bosses resist her control. |
| Roxy | Bloodburst | Bleed | Aggressive, mobile, easy to pick up. Fast Bleed stacking converts to burst damage — amazing against bosses and high-HP enemies. Weak in very short fights. |
| Reina | Gale | Airborne | One of the highest skill ceilings in the game. Repeated launches, sustained aerial output, free repositioning. High execution requirement — S-tier at mastery, A-tier on consistency. |
| Cerese | Frostbite | Frost | Core of Frost teams. Wide-area control, Frost stacking, freeze opportunities for long safe damage windows. Low flexibility outside Frost comps. |
| Kalien | Blazeflame | Burn, Stun | Excellent Burn pressure with flashy AoE. Fox companion covers wide area, DoT damage, can melt groups when positioned right. Fast bosses can escape attacks. |
| Aria | Blazeflame | Burn | One of the most reliable ranged characters. Strong bomb AoE coverage, Burn and Airborne pressure, natural synergy with controllers. Simple, available early, almost no bad matchups. |
| Johnny | Venom | Poison, Airborne | Fast ground extender in aggressive teams. Cuts in after launch/control sequences, maintains pressure without overexposing. Great with Charlotte/Reina. Average alone. |
| Othello | Frostbite | Frost | Setup-focused melee specialist. Strong after Frost etc. are established, good for cutting in when ranged teams get swarmed. Needs setup to peak. |
B TIER — Situational (4 Heroes)
Viable in specific team compositions or content types, but have notable limitations.
| Hero | Trait | Status Ailments | Why B Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alex | Crushing | Knockdown | Safe defensive type, strong poise damage, reliable knockdown. Defensive stance handles frequent interrupts, heavy attacks counter armor. Slow, long animations, low ceiling. |
| Tarte | Thunderbolt | Shock, Recovery | Healing, purification, control — useful when survival is hard. But the game rewards maintaining pressure; damage or strong Signal enablers shorten fights more. Value rises in high-difficulty content. |
| Sion | Thunderbolt | Shock, Knockdown | Strong enemy grouping creates AoE opportunities, Shock pressure + team utility. Far exceeds B-tier against dense groups, but value depends heavily on scenario and team. Most likely to rise as teams develop. |
| Astria | Breaker | — | Good ranged, strong burst, wide-area bombardment. Safe output vs. slow or grouped enemies. Unreliable against mobile targets — enemies can walk out of ult. Less team utility than A-tier ranged. |
C TIER — Niche (1 Hero)
| Hero | Trait | Status Ailments | Why C Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eileen | Gale | Airborne | Team attack buff is useful and can boost DPS characters in the right comp. But low personal output, lacks comprehensive damage/control/healing/Signal connection. Too specialized — only works when the other two already cover damage and control. |
🎯 Recommended Starter Team
Theresia + Roxy + Lute
- Theresia starts chains with Bleed or Stun
- Roxy stacks Bleed layers for burst damage
- Lute provides extra Stun, poise pressure and healing for consistency
Theresia + Roxy + Castella — Replace Lute with Castella for more control and combo potential. Use when you don't need healing.
💡 Core Advice
Team Synergy > Three S-Tier Heroes
A well-connected A-tier team will outperform three individually strong S-tier Heroes who never trigger each other's Signal Skills. Complete one functional three-Hero team first, then spread resources across the roster.
Investment order: Pick 3 Heroes that cover complementary status types → max their skills and gear → then start building a second team for variety and specific boss matchups.
Most Likely to Rise
Sion has the highest potential to move up as players discover better team compositions. His enemy grouping and Shock pressure are extremely valuable in the right scenarios.
